NetApp Pre-showcase Conducted in Bengaluru

Bengaluru — NetApp, a global leader in cloud data services, proudly announces the ongoing success of its Data Explorers Program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing fundamental data science education to students in Bengaluru. The organisation, originated in United States, through it’s highly skilled team of professionals established in Bengaluru headquarters, in collaboration with school teachers and trainers, has actively engaged over 500 students from six prominent schools in Bengaluru since its inception in September 2023.

Throughout the program’s duration, 16 enriching sessions have been conducted in each participating school, fostering a dynamic learning environment. Students have been actively involved in collecting data on global issues using the CODAP tool (https://codap.concord.org/), enhancing their practical understanding of data science principles.

The Schools involved are:

Parikrama School
Christel House
Sri Sai Prashanthi Balamandira school
Swami Vivekananda Vidya Kendra
Henk Bruna Swamy Vivekananda
Divine Mercy School

A Truly STEAM Event

In a remarkable convergence of creativity and data-driven insights, the NetApp Data Explorers Program Pre-Showcase Event witnessed teams from all six participating schools in Bengaluru transforming STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). The culmination of weeks of intensive training and exploration, each team showcased their acquired data science skills through riveting storytelling and imaginative skits. The event was a dynamic fusion of analytical prowess and artistic expression, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the NetApp DE Program.

Students seamlessly integrated their technical knowledge with the arts, presenting data through compelling narratives that captivated the audience. This innovative approach not only demonstrated their understanding of data science but also emphasized the program’s commitment to fostering a holistic educational experience. The Pre-Showcase Event served as a testament to the transformative power of blending STEM disciplines with the arts, enriching the educational landscape and providing students with a comprehensive skill set for the future.

As a culmination of their efforts, the students were gearing up for the much-anticipated pre-showcase and final showcase events. Scheduled for January 29th, 30th, and 31st, 2024, the pre-showcase event set the stage for the final showcase on February 9th, which will take place at the NetApp office in Bengaluru.

What is a Baseline Test?

Purpose: The Baseline Test is the initial assessment conducted at the beginning of the program. It serves as a benchmark to evaluate the students’ knowledge, skills, and understanding of data science and related concepts before they start the Data Explorers Program.

Timing: The Baseline Test is typically administered at the outset of the program, often on the first day or week.

Content: This test covers foundational knowledge relevant to data science, STEM concepts, and possibly general problem-solving abilities. It helps program organizers understand the starting point of each student.

What is an Endline Test?

Purpose: The Endline Test is the final assessment administered at the conclusion of the program. It evaluates the overall impact of the program on students’ learning and their ability to apply data science concepts to real-world problems.

Timing: The Endline Test is conducted at the end of the program, just before or during the final showcase event.

Content: The Endline Test assesses students’ advanced data analysis skills, problem-solving capabilities, and their ability to present their findings effectively. It measures the program’s success in achieving its educational objectives.

These assessment points, from baseline to endline, allow program organizers to measure the growth and development of participating students. By comparing the results of these tests, they can assess the program’s effectiveness in enhancing students’ data science knowledge and their ability to apply it to address real-world challenges. This data-driven approach helps ensure that the Data Explorers Program remains impactful and aligned with its educational goals.

Building on Past Triumphs

The previous editions of the Data Explorers program, conducted in Bangalore and New Delhi, witnessed active participation from over 900 students representing eight schools. Over the span of 16 weeks, these budding data enthusiasts dived headfirst into the realm of data analysis, unearthing its various dimensions and applications.

The program’s immersive approach provided students with hands-on learning experiences, transcending the boundaries of theoretical knowledge and exposing them to real-world data-driven challenges.

One of the program’s highlights was the students’ final showcase event. Armed with enriched knowledge of data science, they presented their insights and discoveries through creative avenues, including posters, presentations, and skits. This not only showcased their proficiency in data analysis but also demonstrated their ability to effectively communicate complex ideas.

The thematic focus of these presentations revolved around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), underscoring the program’s commitment to aligning STEM education with real-world challenges. Students tackled critical issues such as climate action, population dynamics, and plastic pollution, emphasizing the pivotal role of data science in addressing global crises.

A Collaborative Commitment

The renewal of the Data Explorers program, through the partnership between NetApp and India STEM Foundation, exemplifies a shared dedication to nurturing a generation of data-savvy individuals. Beyond introducing students to the intricacies of data science, this collaboration empowers them to apply their newfound insights in meaningful ways. The program’s resounding success underscores the value of collaborative efforts between industry leaders and educational institutions in shaping the future of STEM education.
